The Department of Marine Engineering and Energetics is an organizational unit and holder of the study program Marine Engineering at the undergraduate level, the study program Marine Engineering and Maritime Technology at the graduate level, and the study program Marine Power and Engineering Systems at the postgraduate university study Maritime Studies.
The studies are based on modern scientific knowledge in the field of technical sciences, and students acquire the authorities for leading, operating and maintaining ship's engine systems, watchkeeping, crew management, safety at sea and prevention of marine pollution, all in accordance with international conventions. Upon completion of their studies, students may be employed as engine officers on merchant navy ships with the possibility of attaining the highest rank of chief engineer. They can also be employed in institutions and companies with activities related to maritime affairs and marine engineering as well as in maritime, transport and economic companies that are responsible for the management and implementation of the maritime transport process.
Curricula contain knowledge in the fields of technique, technology, electrical engineering, maintenance, IT science, ecology, marine engineering, economy, law and management. The undergraduate study program contains the complete IMO Model Course 7.02 program administered by the International Maritime Organization, based on the STCW Convention for the Education of Second Engineer and Engineer for Ships with a propulsion power of 3000 kW or more.
