LOGISTIC AND MANAGEMENT IN MARITIME INDUSTRY AND TRANSPORT

The Department of Maritime Logistics and Management was established in June 2005. It is an organizational unit and the holder of the study program Logistics and Management in Maritime Affairs and Transport at undergraduate and graduate levels. The scope of work of the Department includes teaching, scientific and professional activities. The Department organizes and conducts undergraduate (three-year) and graduate (two-year) studies. After completing the undergraduate study, the student acquires the academic title of Bachelor (baccalaureus / baccalaureate) engineer in logistics and maritime management. After completing the graduate study, the students acquire the academic title of Master engineer in logistics and maritime management.
The curriculum of the courses, performed by the Department members at the undergraduate level, contains knowledge in economics and process optimization in maritime and land transport. The acquired knowledge aims to enable students’ employment and successful organization of the transport process in various maritime and transportation companies in the public and private sectors.
The graduate study is set as an upgrade to the contents of the undergraduate study in such a way that students are prepared to perform management tasks and successful work in transport institutions and companies with activities related to maritime affairs and transport (ports, port authorities, shipping companies, agencies, forwarders, customs, transport companies, port authorities, the ministry in charge of maritime affairs and transport, etc.).
The Department takes care of the development and maintenance of modelling and simulation laboratories, virtual reality simulators and Rijeka Innovation Living Lab. In the fourth call, Rijeka Innovation Living Lab became a member of the European Network of Living Labs - an association founded by the European Commission with the purpose of creating unique, innovative laboratories in Europe. Rijeka Innovation Living Lab is the only laboratory of such kind in Croatia and one of the hundreds of such laboratories in the European Union, and has scientists participating in integrated and interdisciplinary research. It also provides a social encouragement for creating “open” innovations, including the academic community, public institutions, and small, medium and large enterprises.
The Department has very intensive and successful cooperation with the maritime sector, with the most common partners being maritime and transport companies (ports, ship-owners, road and rail carriers, maritime agencies, shippers); administrative bodies (port administration, customs, state, county and local administration bodies in the field of maritime affairs and transport); compliant vocational institutions (institutes for transport, institutes for tourism, institutes for economics, associations, etc.).
