NAUTICAL STUDIES AND MARITIME TRANSPORT TECHNOLOGY

The Department of Nautical Sciences is the successor to the former Department of Navigation and Safety at Sea. The Institute for Maritime Navigation and Safety was renamed in 2006.
The Department is the holder of the study program Nautical Studies and Maritime Transport Technology at the undergraduate and graduate level, and the study module Nautical Sciences at the Postgraduate University Study Maritime Affairs.
The Department is responsible for conducting scientific and professional subjects in the study program of Nautical Studies and Maritime Transport Technology. Subjects can generally be classified into three structural groups in the field of technical sciences: navigation, maritime safety, and a group that includes marine engineering and technology.
The study program of Nautical Studies and Maritime Transport Technology is characterized by the fact that students during their studies are introduced to subjects from the fields of technical, natural, medical, humanities and social sciences. The study is specific because, in addition to the principles that university studies must meet, it must meet extremely specific principles, of which we must emphasize mandatory compliance with international standards, interdisciplinarity and multidisciplinarity, and the overlapping of science and profession. This primarily refers to the mandatory compliance with international standards prescribed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) based in London. Therefore, the study is fully in line with the requirements of the STCW 1978 Convention.
